The latest numbers are in after the fourth of July weekend, and it’s safe to say that Transformers: Dark of the Moon is experiencing a fair amount of financial success. In fact, as far as July fourth openings go, it was the best. I mean the best fourth of July opening of all time. That’s incredible when you think about all the movies that have opened on this weekend in the past, hoping to become that talked about summer blockbuster. The film that Dark of the Moon surpassed was the highly anticipated Spider-Man 2. These of course are based on North American numbers, but with $217 million made through Sunday, it’s also Paramount’s best international launch ever. Already it’s the third best global launch of all time, and it’s run is far from over.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon is set to just simply continue to make money for the next few weeks, and for years to come. The cable channel FX has already acquired the TV rights to show the movie sometime in 2013 or 2014. FX has also recently picked up Super 8, The Hangover II, Green Lantern, Thor, and scores of other recently released movies. Don’t forget about DVD sales too. The movie’s star Shia LaBeouf has already hinted that that DVD will have tons of extras including a large number of deleted scenes. So expect there to be some more buzz when the DVD is released.
